Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has lifted the suspension of by-elections and other electoral services after adopting health safety measures.

In line with Government’s measures to suppress the spread of the novel COVID-19, ZEC had in March suspended all electoral activities, including the holding of by-elections.
“ZEC would like to inform the public that it has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities following measures taken by Government to curb the spread of the Covid19 pandemic. Electoral time-lines for all pending by-elections will be published in the press through notices in due course," she said.
“The lifting follows cautionary observation of the pandemic’s trends and subsequent adoption of health safety measures, including the drafting and operationalisation of a Covid19 policy on Electoral activities
She went on to say, “the Covid19 policy on electoral activities which outlines how by-elections and other electoral activities will be conducted without exposing those involved to health risks is now on the ZEC website www.zec.org.zw for the public.”
She appealed to stakeholders to strictly adhere to the policy so as to curb the spread of the Covid19 disease which she said is still highly contagious.
