ZANU PF will be conducting a nationwide COVID19 awareness blitz, as it joins forces with its implementing agency (government) in combating the pandemic. Using its structures in the Youth League, War Veterans and Women’s League, the Party will embark on the exercise under the theme “Prevention, Prevention and Prevention.” Politburo Member Dr David Parirenyatwa said the move is aimed at informing the public on the virus. “As instructed by His Excellency the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde ED Mnangagwa, ZANU PF will execute a nationwide awareness and mobilisation blitz. This is in order to strengthen the messages on prevention and on what populations should do during this COVID-19 pandemic,” Cde Parirenyatwa said. “The Provincial and District officials particularly the Youth League, Women’s League and the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle will spearhead the programmes using its abundantly decentralized Structures.” “Stern preventive measures will certainly assist us in maintaining a low infection rate of Covid-19 giving us hope for a quick recovery so that we can continue to see each other tomorrow and tomorrow.” Commenting on the pandemic, Dr Anthony Fauci, Director of the United States of America’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) highlighted that there is need to implement as many of the preventive measures if the world must win the battle. “Social distancing and the stay at home preventative measure for Corona Virus has been recommended as an ideal strategy in dealing with the pandemic. No unnecessary crowds, telework when you possibly can,” Dr Fauci said. “Some people are not paying attention which is why I plead with them, even though you may think this is not having an impact, not only are you putting yourself in danger, but you are putting society in danger because as you get infected you may be inertly and even innocently infecting others particularly those who are vulnerable.” It is against these realities that the Party will be rallying the nation towards prevention through this blitz.
