ZANU PF Director for Information and Publicity, Cde Tafadzwa Mugwadi, has urged citizens to embrace the recently launched National Settlement Regularisation and Sanitation Programme (NSRSP) and shun unscrupulous housing cooperatives and land barons. The NSRSP born out of the ZANU PF 2018 People’s Manifesto was launched this Monday Cde Garwe has within the same week launched the programme in Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North provinces. Commenting on the housing programme Cde Mugwadi said “the launch of the NSRSP) on 29 June 2020, marks the first steps towards the sanitisation of urban settlements and the modernisation of rural areas nationwide. “The launch, a brain child of the New Dispensation and Second Republic of Zimbabwe under the leadership of the ZANU PF First Secretary and President Cde ED Mnangagwa, speaks to the Party’s electoral promise of delivering 1.5 million affordable housing units before the next elections,” Cde Mugwadi said. The tough talking Cde Mugwadi also took time to implore home seekers to shun dealing with unscrupulous housing cooperatives and land barons. “As a Party we are fully in support of NSRSP and we are reminding home seekers that the Party does not own any housing cooperative nor does it harbour any land barons. “In that spirit, ZANU PF is warning land barons and baroness who are abusing the name of the Party to desist forthwith for their days are numbered,” he said. Meanwhile, Cde Garwe speaking during the launch of the programme in Matabeleland urged home seekers to close doors on land barons. “Lets all close doors to land barons. Let’s deal with land barons for the benefit of our people,” Cde Garwe said. Cde Garwe said the demolition of illegal structures was now a thing of the past. “Yes we have in the past seen councils demolishing housing structures. That is now a thing of the past. No house will be demolished. A few may be affected if in the way of regularising but they will be replaced.” In the 2018 People's Manifesto, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Cde E.D Mnangagwa assured “all those who developed houses where regularisation is still requested that they will not be moved or have their property destroyed unless they are settled on the land designated for schools, clinics or roads.” Government is working with private players in rolling out the national housing programme. The infrastructure provider in any given housing development site would develop the requisite off-site and on-site infrastructure inclusive of roads, water and sewer reticulation, storm water drains, street lighting, optic fibre cabling for smart metering, crèches, schools and clinics as per approved lay out plans.
