President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa has congratulated the People's Republic of China PRC for its distinguished efforts in poverty reduction. Making his remarks at the International Seminar on Poverty Eradication And Responsibility of Political Parties, President Mnangagwa said the friendship between the two countries has enabled Zimbabwe to benefit.   "I would like to congratulate China on its poverty alleviation efforts which have made great contribution to global poverty reduction especially in Africa," President Mnangagwa said.   "Poverty is a complex multi-dimensional phenomenon which includes lack of access to resources, goods and services and income resulting in individual and or group deprivation, vulnerability and powerlessness. "Poverty also manifests itself in various ways including hunger, malnutrition, ill-health, limited or no access to education, health care, safe housing, water, sanitation and decent paid work. All these affect us in Zimbabwe as they do any other nation."   President Mnangagwa said "China has lifted over 700 million people out of poverty. The country has also seen the number of impoverished rural residents decline from nearly 770 million in late 1978 to 5.51 million by the end of 2019 as shown by data from China's National Bureau of Statistics in May 26, 2020," he said.   "We thus congratulate China for being the first country to achieve the poverty alleviation goal set in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." President Mnangagwa said the country is committed to poverty eradication and shared the strides made. "ZANU PF is committed to the brotherhood, relations and solidarity between our two Parties which started more than half a century ago," he said. "The mutual trust and support, especially in times of hardships, will certainly lead us into prosperous days ahead. "China has always made a major contribution to poverty reduction and development in Africa, especially in Zimbabwe. We thank the Chinese government for investing in several developmental projects and for the donation of US$800 000 towards Cyclone Idai victims, among many others."
