PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA CHANNELS ZW$100million TO THE LESS PRIVILEGED: TREASURY COMPLIES
IN line with pronouncements by President E.D Mnangagwa that Government will provide resources to fight #Covid19, the Ministry of Finance has announced a ZWL $100m package to fight the pandemic. Additionally, 1 million vulnerable households will receive cash transfer payouts immediately to help them during the 21 day shutdown. In a statement, Minister of Finance Professor Mthuli Ncube said Treasury will provide more resources upon request to fight #Covid19. "Treasury has since availed over ZWL$100 million to fight against COVID-19, and is ready to attend to further requests on this issue. Vulnerable groups in our society are the most exposed under this COVID-19 crisis. Accordingly, Treasury has set aside resources to cover one million vulnerable households under a Cash Transfer programme and payment will commence immediately. The Social Welfare Department will use its usual mechanisms to identify the beneficiaries". The Minister said to date Us$2m was disbursed by government towards procurement of #Covid19 medicines and materials. He added that Treasury has also concurred to the unfreezing of over 4 000 health sector posts and creation of an additional 200 medical posts with a view of scaling the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Ncube also announced a raft of measures to support businesses in light of the shocks caused by the #Covid19. He said the measures will include quick processing of tax refunds for corporates and Vat refunds. ENDS
