PREPARATIONS FOR RE-OPENING OF FINAL YEAR EXAM CLASSES UNDERWAY

PREPARATIONS FOR RE-OPENING OF FINAL YEAR EXAM CLASSES UNDERWAY Government says it is continuing with preparations for the re-opening of schools for final examination classes, revealed a Cabinet Minister. The First Secretary and President His Excellency Cde E.D Mnangagwa in May highlighted that public exam classes within schools and final-year students at colleges and universities must be allowed to continue recognising the stipulated Covid19 prevention measures. He said clear plans of the phased re-opening of schools must continue to be put in place. However the rising numbers of confirmed Covid19 infections had made Government defer the re-opening of schools for examination classes in July pending a review of the situation. Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said this in Harare yesterday whilst presenting the Post Cabinet Press Briefing. “Regarding Primary and Secondary Education, Cabinet notes that the sector is continuing with its preparations for the re-opening of schools for final examination classes," Minister Mutsvangwa said. "The developed and approved guidelines that were put in place for the June 2020 examinations will be used for the holding of the final examinations in November to December.” Presenting at the same Post Cabinet Press Briefing Minister Mutsvangwa highlighted the relaxed lockdown regulations that Government has put in place. “Having noted the plight of the public and the need to lessen the risk of contracting COVID-19, Cabinet directed as follows; that the business hours which were ending at 1500 hours be revisited to end at 1630 hours and the curfew to be extended to 2000 hours, that Public transport drivers undergo regular COVID-19 PCR tests and that public transport buses be allowed a dedicated lane at roadblocks to expedite their passage.”
