The Secretary General for the ruling Party, ZANU PF, Cde Obert Mpofu says despite the illegally imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe, the country is forging ahead due to the true leadership of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
The country prepares to commemorate the 25 October Anti-sanctions day which was set aside by SADC for a collective voice against the punitive measures not only affecting Zimbabwe but the whole region.
Speaking during an interview with the ZANU PF Information and Publicity Department, Cde Mpofu said the erstwhile enemy thought to punish Zimbabwe through these illegal sanctions.
"In my view, sanctions are a neo-colonial strategy to subjugate those countries that are truly independent into submission. Zimbabwe is a truly independent country following a vicious war to attain our independence. So because of this our erstwhile colonisers sort to punish us through sanctions," Cde Mpofu said.
"We are the one country in the region that has suffered from these illegal sanctions for more than 20 years and we are moving. Our economy is very functional, things are moving with greater speed through true leadership from our President who is leading from the front. We have even at some point forgotten that there are under sanctions because we are doing things ourselves, ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo."
The Secretary General added that the people must know that with or without sanctions the country will develop.
"Sanctions or no sanctions we are forging ahead with our programmes of developing the country and meeting the aspirations of our people and there is nowhere in this country where you don't see development taking place whether in hospitals, schools, bridges, roads, agriculture and tourism. There's a lot of activity in all these areas which shows that we are on course of meeting the 2030 vision which we have set ourselves to meet. We might even complete some of the projects before that."
Cde Mpofu said "the message to our people is that sanctions or no sanctions, this country is going to develop and fast in that we are with our people in all this and they are supporting our programmes. The regional colleagues and friends are also supporting our programmes which are pro-people. They are popular programmes which we have no doubt will be met by 2030."
