The Zanu PF leadership continues with its whirlwind provincial tours to explain to its grassroots support base that there was no vacillation on the land issue and that the Global Compensation Deed was not the reversal of the land reform. The Zanu PF land reform gospel train comes in the wake of last Friday the Presidential address to members of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) at State House where President Emmerson Mnangagwa said there won’t be any vacillation on the land issue. “Let me restate that the Land Reform Programme is irreversible. To this end, there is no vacillation. The current processes with regards to land issues entail the implementation of provisions of our national Constitution, in particular, Section 295 as it relates to black indigenous Zimbabweans. I urge all farmers to remain focused on preparing for a successful 2020-2021 season,” President Mnangagwa said. Zanu PF Secretary for Transport and Social Welfare, Cde July Moyo, took advantage of the Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting held this Sunday to clear the air on the land issue. “Our constitution is very clear through section 295 on how the land issue should be treated which the President is following. The constitution explains the different categories and how they should be treated. Only 37 farms under BIPPA were affected and are being addressed. It’s unfortunate, people have not been well acquainted with the constitution,” Cde Moyo said. He said the former white farmers were only going to be compensated on improvements made on the land. “Those former white farmers whose land was taken are only entitled to compensation on improving only. This culminated in the coming up of a 3.5 billion agreement on compensation. The President is on record saying land reform is irreversible. These are internal engagements at various levels. Cde Moyo also explained that the economy was on a rebound and Masvingo Province was key in the revival prospect of agricultural sector.“Masvingo is politically strong and has a vibrant economy within the province. The future of Zimbabwe is in the province. This is in respect of agriculture following the building of Tokwe Mukosi. The Pfumvudza initiative which the President is championing through the Ministry of Agriculture is very key in enhancing food security at household level. This is important particularly during this period of climate change.”
