BUBI, Matabeleland North – In a powerful display of grassroots political mobilization, over 265 artisanal miners, mine owners, and local residents packed the grounds of Peach Mines (Reo-Deo Mine) in Bubi District ;to throw their unequivocal support behind the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Bill No. 3.
The gathering, organized by the Miners for Economic Development in Matabeleland North Province, served as a key platform to educate stakeholders and galvanize backing for the landmark legislative reform.
Leading the charge was the guest of honour, Mrs. S. Ncube, chairperson of the Bulawayo Province, who stood in solidarity with National Coordinator Cde. Anashe Coussie, national member Joseph Moyo, and a host of provincial executives. The event also drew critical stakeholders, including representatives from Bank ABC, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), signaling broad-based support for the initiative.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Mrs. Ncube reaffirmed the group’s unwavering allegiance to Vision 2030 as a ZANU PF affiliate, emphasizing that the amendment is a non-negotiable tool to accelerate the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2). She lauded President E.D. Mnangagwa’s developmental legacy, highlighting transformative projects such as the rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road, the modernization of the Beitbridge Border Post, and the progressive business reforms that have empowered the small-scale gold mining sector.
“The Amendment Bill No. 3 supports Vision 2030 by extending presidential terms and empowering Parliament to elect the president,” Mrs. Ncube asserted. “This reduces the time lost to premature elections, which derail our developmental trajectory, and ensures the president remains accountable to Parliament, fostering greater efficiency in service delivery.”
Echoing these sentiments, Matabeleland North Provincial Chairman Mr. Benjamin Ndlovu hailed President Mnangagwa as a “listening leader” who has consistently addressed the concerns of miners and war veterans. He rallied the crowd to embrace the bill as a vital step toward securing the “total independence” won by the nation’s sons and daughters.
“We are charting a decisive path to full independence and enduring success under the stewardship of His Excellency Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa,” Mr. Ndlovu declared.
National Coordinator Cde. Anashe Coussie described the Bubi meeting as a historic first for Matabeleland North, vowing to roll out further provincial engagements to solidify support. Adding to the chorus of endorsement, Provincial Secretary Cde. KaMoto proclaimed with confidence, “Vision 2030 is unstoppable.”
Speaking to our Staff Reporter National Chairman Cde. Danford Suntile praised President Mnangagwa’s leadership in uniting miners behind Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 of 2026. National Vice Chairman and spokesperson Dru Edmund Kucherera provided a compelling rationale for the reform, stating, “A seven-year term is fair. It provides sufficient time for meaningful service delivery and reduces the constant distraction of perpetual election mode.”
The gathering concluded on a high note with the election of a new local chapter for Miners for Economic Development, tasked with representing the mining communities of Famona, Battlefield, and Maclenuck areas;a move that further cements the province’s organizational strength and commitment to the ruling party’s vision.
