Honourable A. Nguluvhe Tours Liberation Heritage Projects in Matabeleland South

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. A. Nguluvhe, today led a high-level delegation on a tour of key liberation heritage and community development projects across Matabeleland South Province.

The visit, conducted alongside Directors of OPC Mat South, included officials from the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, represented by Acting Chief Director Madam J. Pikinini, as well as the District Development Coordinator (DDC) and representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The tour aimed to assess progress on initiatives preserving Zimbabwe’s liberation history while improving the welfare of war veterans and local communities.

The delegation began by inspecting three houses under construction for selected war veterans. Significant progress has been made, with remaining works including roofing. The houses are scheduled for completion by 13 April. Notably, one of the war veteran beneficiaries shared that they trained alongside Hon. A. Nguluvhe at CGT, highlighting a longstanding connection rooted in the liberation struggle.

The team then proceeded to Ratanyana, the historic site of the Battle of Ratanyana, where a museum is currently under construction. The site has been recommended for designation as a national heritage site to preserve its historical significance for future generations. The National Museums is expected to install a commemorative flame at the site on 17 April, ahead of Independence Day celebrations, with a test run scheduled for 15 April.

The museum project, funded by the Zimbabwe Lotteries and Gaming Board, is expected to be completed by 31 March. Outstanding works include plumbing and tiling. The facility will also feature documented local historical accounts to enrich public understanding of the liberation struggle.

In addition, the Zimbabwe Lotteries and Gaming Board is supporting the construction of a clinic near the museum. The delegation toured the facility, which is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized by 10 April.

During the visit, Hon. A. Nguluvhe emphasized the importance of community participation in development projects, encouraging local residents to take an active role in fostering ownership and sustainability.

As part of the outreach, Acting Chief Director Madam J. Pikinini handed over groceries to Hon. A. Nguluvhe, who subsequently distributed them to selected families in the area.

These initiatives underscore the Government’s commitment to honoring the legacy of the liberation struggle while advancing community development and social welfare across the province.
