Mines and Mining Development Minister has said government under the Second Republic is putting in place various measures to attract global investors.
In an interview during the Mine Entra Conference,Mines and Mining Development Minister Hon Winston Chitando said the Ministry is crafting Minerals Development Policies to guide investments into the sector.
“ Legislative reforms to create a conducive and competitive investment climate. Currently, Government through the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development is amending the Mines and Minerals Act [Chapter 21:05].
“The Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill was gazetted in June 2025. Furthermore, the Ministry is crafting Minerals Development Policies to guide investments into the sector,”said Minister Chitando.
Minister Chitando also said Zimbabwe is reforming its regulatory framework to ensure a competitive investment environment.
“Zimbabwe is reforming its regulatory framework to ensure a competitive investment environment. The country is aligning its mining practices with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards to meet international expectations, especially for exports of minerals such as gold and lithium.
“This is crucial as global markets—particularly the EU and US—tighten rules on conflict minerals and ethical sourcing.
“The first phase of the Responsible Mining Audit was launched by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa in 2023 and he is set to launch the second phase before the end of this year, 2025. The aim is to ensure all mining companies adhere to the country’s laws, including mining, environment, labour, immigration, tax, among others,”said Minister Chitando.
Running under the theme Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining,Minister Chitando said the ongoing Mine Entra Conference should focus on integrating sustainability and innovation across the mining value chain.
“Based on this year’s theme "Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining", the key issues to be addressed at the Mine Entra Conference 2025 should focus on integrating sustainability and innovation across the mining value chain.
“The event should move the industry forward through practical solutions and partnerships,”said Minister Chitando.
