FIRST Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa has revived the Dura ramai concept through the traditional leaders' (madzishe) spouses. The distribution of traditional small grain seeds to the wives of chiefs from Masvingo and Manicaland marked the beginning of the initiative.The program being implemented through the community bearers will complement other programs speaheaded by Amai Mnangagwa which include the castor bean, goat rearing and the nutrition garden and other projects meant to combat the effects of climate change.Recognising the importance of traditional leader' spouses as an important constituency in the development of communities, Amai Mnangagwa through her foundation, Angel of Hope is reviving the Runde ramai concept, where the chief' homestead will be central in alleviating poverty and the effects of drought in communities.In a speech read on her behalf by the Minister of State for Masvingo Province, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, the First Lady hightlighed the synergies which existed between the community and chiefs which can be used to end poverty, malnutrition and drought in communities.Amai Mnangagwa encouraged the growing of traditional small grains, saying the success of such community based intiatives needed collective effort."I have brought these small grain seeds to help boost the Dura ramai mambo, as we know it's a focal point where the sick, the elderly and the needy go for help, so this will go a long way in boosting food reserves in the communities," she added.In accepting the First Lady's concept, Chiefs' spouses applauded the First Lady saying she was a rare mother of the nation, whose ideas needed their support to alleviate hunger and poverty in communities.Chief Charumbira' s wife, who is the leader of the Chief's spouses across the country hightlighed that the responsibility given to them by the First Lady shows that they were an important component and hardwork was the only benchmark to prove their worthy.Chief Ndima's spouse, from Ndima village in Chimanimani also thanked Amai Mnangagwa for bringing hope to the Chimanimani Cyclone Idai victims.Chief Bota's spouse, from Bota village in Zaka also highlighted that the goat projects which were introduced by the First Lady last year was thriving, as the goat rearing had turned into a lucrative business in the community.
