Zimbabwe has recorded its 9th Corona Virus COVID19 positive case as the country enters day five of the 21 days of lockdown. President Cde ED Mnangagwa declared a 21-day lockdown in order to stop local transmissions and prevent the spread of the virus. In a statement the Ministry of Health and Child Care says the ninth case tested positive this week after conducting tests on 42 samples. The National Microbiology Reference Laboratory tested 42 samples. The samples were received from Harare (31), Bulawayo (4), Mashonaland east (3), Mashonaland west (2), Midlands (1) and Masvingo (1). “The ninth patient is a 50-year old male resident of Harare who had traveled to the United Kingdom and returned home on March 21. He started exhibiting mild symptoms and the local COVID19 Rapid Response Team went to assess him at home on the 1st of April 2020 and collected samples for testing.” President Mnangagwa continues to engage the various sectors of society in order to make them understand what the country is currently challenged with. Yesterday he met with traditional chiefs and religious group from across the country and urged them to educate the people they lead, on this pandemic. To the religious leaders, he asked them to encourage congregates to worship in groups of less than 50 or better still hold their prayers in their homes. To the chiefs, President Mnangagwa encouraged them to desist from the usual traditional gatherings and educate their subjects especially those who traveled from the urban areas on the pandemic. President of the Chiefs Council, Fortune Charumbira highlighted the commitment of the chiefs towards enforcing their government’s directive while confirming the temporary restrictions on urban to rural migration. He appealed for government financial assistance, to enable the traditional leaders to communicate with their subjects instead of holding meetings.
