ADC Executive Secretary pays courtesy call on President Mnangagwa …says the region enjoys peace and stability under Zim Chairmanship
THE Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), said the region is in a very stable state in terms of the politics and security.President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the current chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).Speaking to the media soon after a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Her Excellency Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, said she has come to brief the President as chair on areas of peace and security and map the way forward in some areas which might need attention.“The purpose of our meeting here in Zimbabwe as you are aware that the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa is the current chair on the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).I was here to brief him about political peace across the region as our Chair.“As you can see that we are stable as a region politically. Of course they will always be challenges such as climate change, youth unemployment and a number of other attentions which need to be addressed. When we talk of peace and security we look at the social economic and political environment holistically, “said Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax.The SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is a structure established under Article 9 of the SADC Treaty. In 2018 towards the harmonised elections, during her visit to President Mnangagwa, The Executive Secretary underscored the importance of peace and stability and thanked the Republic of Zimbabwe for inviting SADC to observe the July 2018 elections.
