The Secretary General of the ruling Party ZANU PF Cde Obert Mpofu has congratulated President and First Secretary Cde E.D Mnangagwa for his international call against the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe.
His remarks made during the opening remarks of the Policy and Coordinating Committee meeting at the Party Headquarters in Harare.
Zimbabwe has suffered from the illegal sanctions for years with the country's leadership adopting a new stance of using local resources in order to bust the sanctions.
The late Tanzanian President John Magufuli took a bold stance during his reign as the SADC Chairman to call for the removal of sanctions placed on Zimbabwe and indicated that these sanctions were affecting the whole block and therefore needed to be removed.
Since then Africa has been celebrating the 25th of October as the Anti-sanctions Day.
In his remarks, Cde Mpofu applauded the President and his counterparts for using the platform to call for the removal of the sanctions.
"Comrades, allow me to congratulate and applaud His Excellency, President and First Secretary, Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa on his address to the 78th United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York where he condemned the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. In condemning these illegal sanctions, His Excellency, President and First Secretary Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa was joined by President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Hage Geingob, who in their respective addresses to the United Nations General Assembly boldly castigated these illegal sanctions and rightly called for their removal. In addition, on the sidelines of the UNGA meeting, His Excellency, President and First Secretary Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa also met with, and held bilateral talks with several of his SADC counterparts including HE President Cyril Ramaphosa, HE President Filipe Nyusi, HE President Hage Geingob and HE President Jao-Lorenco."
