The Executive Director of the World Health Organisation(WHO)’s Health Emergencies Program, Michael Ryan, has joined the world of people condemning US President Donald Trump who recently referred to the global Corona Virus pandemic as a ‘Chinese Virus.A few weeks ago, the USA whisked away its tourist nationals from Bermuda Islands in an attempt to avoid them being infected with the virus only to have realise emerging cases at home. The world has united in condemning Trump, accusing him of rational profiling.Speaking at a press conference Mr Ryan noted with sadness that some global leaders were making unbridled and uninformed comments on the virus at a time when there is need for solidarity in fighting the virus.“I think we have been very clear since the beginning of this event, that the virus knows no borders and doesn’t care about your ethnicity, the colour of your skin or how much money you have in the bank. So it’s really important that we be careful in the language we use, lest it lead to profiling of individuals associated with it,” Ryan said.“The virus is something we need to avoid. It’s easy in these situations to summarise or to make comments that are not intended to do that but having that outcome. I am sure that anyone would regret for profiling a virus along an ethnic line. That’s something no one would want to do. We need solidarity. We need to work together. There are many different origins like I said before. We are in this press conference because of the pandemic.”He also noted that there was an H1N1 virus known as influenza virus of 2009 which originated in North America but was never called or referred to as the North American flu.Trump, who has become known for his motor-mouth speeches that lack depth befitting of a President recently torched a storm, tweeting that, “For the people that are now out of work because of the important and necessary containment policies, for instance the shutting down of hotels, bars and restaurants, money will soon be coming to you. The onslaught of the Chinese Virus is not your fault! We will be stronger than ever!” in an apparent attack of the Chinese people.
