Twenty houses for Binga 2020 flood victims beckon

GOVERNMENT through the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities has invited bids for the construction of 20 by three-roomed houses for families that were left homeless during the 2020 floods that hit Nsungwale area, Binga District in Matabeleland North Province.

Nsungwale is under Chief Sinakoma in Binga and the area that was affected by the floods is where four rivers meet, namely, Sibwambwa, Sikanda, Mamapande and Manyenyengwa.

The new houses are being built on higher ground, away from the confluence of the four rivers.

In the wake of the rising cases of floods and forced evacuations in recent years, the ZANU PF Government led by the ZANU PF First Secretary and His Excellency President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, besides relocating people to safer habitable ground, has also come up with a robust rural housing delivery programme aimed at addressing issues of substandard materials used in the construction of houses particularly in rural areas.

In a statement issued in the local media over the weekend, the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities announced that, it was “inviting interested, potential and PRAZ registered bidders to bid for the construction of 20 by three roomed houses in Nsungwale area, Binga, Matabeleland North Province.”

The closing date for the tender which opens today, is 15 October 2021.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Richard Moyo, who is also the Party’s Provincial Chairman has thanked President Mnangagwa for fulfilling most, if not all the promises he has made.

“Once again news of the construction of the houses in Nsungwale Binga District certifies the ZANU PF First Secretary President Mnangagwa as a doer. A game changer that we have come to know and identify with. This is good news for the people of Binga. We are talking of modern housing here, which will also have water reticulation installed,” Cde Moyo said.

He also revealed that works on a similar project that had been stalled in Tsholotsho District owing to financial constraints had resumed and expected to be completed soon.
