Veterans of the Liberation Struggle are expected to benefit from a Tripartite Agreement signed today in Harare.
The Agreement between the war veterans' parent Ministry, the Ministry of Local Government and Prevail Group is expected to provide residential stands for Zimbabwe's gallant sons and daughters.
The war veterans recently saw the launch of a wealth fund which is expected to economically empower them.
Speaking during a press conference this Wednesday, Minister of Local Government Hon Daniel Garwe said the Ministry will ensure that it follows the precepts given under the Urban Councils Act for the provision of residential stands.
"According to Section 23 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, there are provisions that look after the war veterans. 20 percent of developments must be set aside for the war veterans. We are here to honour this provision by signing for the construction and completion of the development of stands throughout the country," Minister Garwe said.
"The Urban Councils Act will be respected as we will properly plan and govern since we are the Ministry responsible for sanity."
Minister for Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Cde Monica Mavhunga said the distribution exercise will be done transparently.
"Our Ministry is mandated to accord honor, respect, and economic empowerment to our war veterans. 20 percent of our resources in the country are reserved for the war veterans. I am happy that today, the Ministry of Local Government and Prevail Group are working towards this vision. We have 50 000 war veterans, and we will make sure that we do this transparently. We will not be found on the side of those who are corrupt. We would like to thank His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for this project, which will benefit our comrades."
Prevail Group Chief Executive Officer Cde Tempter Paul Tungwarara said his company is "ready to start the work so that our War Veterans can benefit."
