ZANU PF National Political Commissar Cde Victor Matemadanda says anyone dreaming that the land issue will be reversed must wake up from that dream. This statement comes days before we celebrate the country’s independence which came on the brink of the lives of many gallant sons and daughters of the soil. They sacrificed their lives in order for the land to be brought back to the BLACKS and to enjoy the freedom from colonial rule. For over 100 years, the coloniser had tormented the black people by displacing them from their fertile lands, demeaning their very existence and literally rubbished their way of living. Efforts to teach the locals a new culture and way of life was done to dominate over the black people who had enjoyed their civilization for many centuries. History shows a systematic way of life which witnessed the people being religious, having a well-knit judicial system and trade with countries including the People’s Republic of China among others things. They knew that African societies including our own were closely knit because Lord Macaulay in his address to the British Parliament on February 2 1835 said: “I have traveled across the length and breadth of Africa and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this continent, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer these people country, unless we break the very backbone of its foundation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Africans think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation”.  In an interview NPC Matemadanda said land reversal will not take place. “Many, many graves we have in Zambia, Mozambique and everywhere were as a result of wanting this our land back and we would not betray those that died during the process of liberating this country to say yes we agree that we forget about the land issue. To continue to be dominated by our former colonisers those that represented them in the form of Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers,” Cde Matemadanda. “They did not want to share the land. We tried as war veterans under the leadership of Cde Hunzvi to engage them to say let us not go to the extent of fighting and agree that they should reduce the farm sizes and the excess land be given to the black majority but they refused. “What they wanted was to own the land and keep us as slaves in our own land. No, we could not accept that and anyone who may dream that this land issue can be reversed then that person should wake up from that dream.”
