PUBLIC WARNED AGAINST UNNECESSARY MOVEMENT... DURING LOCKDOWN
Members of the public have been urged to travel only when necessary.
Those who do not have to travel during peak hours are also encouraged to avoid travelling during the high congestion hours.
This was said during a media brief after the AD-HOC Inter Ministerial Taskforce on Covid19 received reports from Sub-committees.
Lockdown measures were put in place
Non-working people were urged to stay at home except for essential movement to buy food, find water or for medicinal reasons.
Masks have to be worn outside homes, everyone screened when entering public places and buildings, social distancing observed, public transport passengers screened and sanitised on boarding with buses disinfected between round trips and intercity movement remains banned.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said there has been an observation of unnecessary movement
“The National Taskforce has noted with concern that despite Government’s effort to capacitate ZUPCO to provide services to commuters in urban areas, there is a lot of unnecessary travelling which increases risk in urban areas," said Mutsvangwa.
" Citizens are therefore encouraged to only travel when absolutely necessary and those who do not have to travel during peak hours are also encouraged to avoid travelling during these high congestion times."
Minister Mutsvangwa went on to say that Government understands people’s different demands of their social circumstances, but urged people to be resilient and not violate lockdown restrictions.
“My fellow Zimbabweans, Government appreciates how difficult it is for citizens to avoid venturing out due to the demands of different social circumstances. We also appreciate that we have been in Lockdown for about five months now, but the worst is not yet over," she said.
“Let us dig in into our legendary resilience and take heart in that what we are being asked to do will save us, our families and communities. Let us not violate the movement restrictions that are in place to protect us and others as well as the wearing of masks in public places.”
She added that this is a new normal and people should accept and adapt to it.
