President warns rogue Church clerics David Mwanza In apparent direct response to the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishop’s Conference (ZCBS) recent controversial pastoral letter, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Emmerson Mnanngagwa, has urged clerics to desist from abusing the pulpit in advancement of a nefarious agenda sponsored President Mnangagwa sent the strong warning during his opening remarks to the 343rd Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo meeting held today at the Party Headquarters in Harare. President Mnangagwa also said that the ruling Party cherished the good relations it has had with the church dating back to the time of the liberation struggle and remained committed to working with the church in advancement of national development. “ZANU PF has a close relationship with the Church, dating back to the days of the Liberation Struggle. In the post-independence period, we continued to work well. Going forward, we remain committed to working well with the church to advance the national development agenda, as a united people. “However, it is most unfortunate when men of the cloth begin to use the pulpit to advance a nefarious agenda for detractors of our country. Let me urge all of us to be honest in our dealings, whatever the field we are in. We say no to saboteur tendencies in whatever guise.” President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe was a democracy and people from across all the spheres of life were free to register their political parties, reminding Zimbabweans that the next elections would be in 2023. “Those who want to enter the political realm are welcome to do so. They must come out and form political parties. As ZANU PF we are ready for the 2023 elections. “We are a people’s Party, a Par ty that believes in unity, love, peace and in championing development. We fought for the empowerment of our people,” the President said adding that, “ZANU PF is a Party that fought for democracy, uphold constitutionalism and the rule of law. Those that choose otherwise will be exposed and rejected.”
