Dr. Anton Mylnchak had every compliment to His Excellency, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, on his towering achievement in setting up Manhize DISCO.
Speaking about his recent visit to meet the President, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said "Dr. Anton grew up in Dortmund in the Ruhr Valley, the original and pre-eminent steel base of Germany. He was also Secretary of IG Metall, the largest Steelworker's Trade Union of Germany. He is advising on Global Steel Industry. He is from Dortmund, Ruhr Steel Region," Ambassador Mutsvangwa said.
"Monica and I took him to Manhize DISCO Steel. He is very impressed by your works. He is keen to pay a courtesy call together with his wife Dagma.
"Steel is the staple food and life blood of all the national economic development and the rewarding modernization. Vision 2030 is eminently assured. Zimbabwe has scored both in horizontal and vertical integration of blast furnaces, coke oven batteries, limestone processing plant, oxygen plant and power plant. With more conducive policies and encouraging incentives, Zimbabwe was assured of sustained prosperity."
Dr Mylnchak's impression on the work currently being done in the industry is highlighted as right and proper as he comes from the Ruhr Region, the historical heartland of the global class German Steel Industry moreso coupled with some ideas about exports to Europe and skills development.
Dr. Anton from Germany, lived in Matola, Maputo 1978-79 and was an internationalist cooperant with ZANU Publicity and Information Department.
Thereafter Dr Mlynchak met Hon. Mangaliso Ndlovu, Minister of Industry.
They broached a variety of issues that would deliver world class downstream steel fabrication industry using the raw products such as pig iron, billets and rebar steel from Manhize DISCO.
The two sides also zeroed in on setting up a Zimbabwe Steel and Base Metal Academy riding upon renowned German's prowess in steel making.
Their discussion also dwell on skills and investment so that Zimbabwe can carve out a niche in making quality steel products for the discerning global steel market.
There were animated and intense exchanges on how the past glory of Bulawayo steel industry can revive and grow on the back of Manhize DISCO Steel.
Deputy Minister Raj Modi and Permanent Secretary Thomas Utete Ushe all took part in the discussions.
