ZANU PF First Secretary and President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has said peace and security remains a fundamental catalyst to economic transformation.
Giving his remarks at the Commissioning of the Dzivarasekwa Housing Project, President Mnangagwa said in line with vision 2030 the Second Republic, under my leadership is facilitating the provision of housing which is a basic and fundamental need.
President Mnangagwa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces also said the prioritisation of the members of the Defence Forces is of utmost importance hence the need to empower them with decent accommodation and safe working environment.
“In line with vision 2030 The Second Republic, under my leadership is facilitating the provision of housing which is a basic and fundamental need. Hence today we celebrate yet another milestone that is more than brick and mortar but also of my government‘s unwavering commitment to provide modern, safe and affordable housing for both public sector employees as well as citizens in general.
“The prioritisation of the members of the Defence Forces, as they serve, advance our national interest, as well as defend independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe is of utmost importance.
“Providing decent accommodation and safe working spaces are some of critical enablers for our forces to focus on their primary and most important contribution towards modernisation, industrialisation and growth of our economy, “said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa commends the Defence forces and further outlines that the availability of institutional accommodation is vital for maintaining operational efficiencies, including enabling the national army to coordinate quickly and efficiently react in cases of emergency and disasters.
“I am therefore pleased to handover houses for occupation and use by officers men and women in uniform and their families. May these facilities bae a symbol and constant reminder of the enduring gratitude, respect and honour that our nation has for the sacrifices made by our defence forces.
“The peace, security and defence of our nation, remains fundamental requisite and catalysts for economic transformation, enabling all sectors and the general citizenry to engage in a productive economic activities .This is guaranteed by our security sector, without having to be distracted by accommodation issues.
“This further assures them of higher level of professional dignity, while inculcating broader military norms and value systems as well as encouraging greater bonding, unity and spirit of military camaraderie among the members .I addition, the availability of institutional accommodation is vital for maintaining operational efficiencies, including enabling our national army to coordinate quickly and efficiently react in cases of emergency and disasters.
“I therefore commend the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Forces Construction Regiment, working in conjunction with Broadhaven Construction Company for the success milestones realised to date, “said President Mnangagwa.
The Dzivarasekwa and Imbizo barracks institutional accommodation projects are aimed at the construction of a total of 8 430 housing units.
