IN line with resolutions made at the governing ZANU PF 2019 People’s Conference held in Goromonzi, Government has started working on legislation to punish citizens who act against the interests of the country.
The generality of Zimbabweans have called for the enactment of the legislation generally referred to as the Patriot Act to punish citizens who call for the imposition of sanctions on the country
MDC leaders among them the late Morgan Tsvangirai, Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti, David Coltart have called for the imposition of sanctions on the country at various stages.
The duo of Tendai Biti and David Coltart are the brains behind the Zidera Act which was passed
However, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, said such transgressions will soon be punishable.
He said the mooted legislation is progressive and will help protect the country's territorial integrity.
" I concede that it is a very important piece of legislation that we need. Most progressive countries protect their territorial integrity by ensuring that citizens do not go about selling out their country to other nations," Honorable Ziyambi said.
" I have requested my officers within the Policy Department to do a background research on it. We have been slowed down by the pandemic as we have a skeletal staff. We are expecting developments before the end of this year. We are very much aware and we want to have that Act."
