Speaking to this publication during an interview, ZANU PF War Veterans League Secretary Cde Douglas Mahiya highlighted that the Party’s Provincial elections for Matabeleland North where he is overseeing are promising to be peaceful, saying Matabeleland North is a peaceful Province.
“Generally speaking Matabeleland North is a peaceful Province. When I addressed the polling officers they expressed their desire to have peaceful credible elections for ZANU PF and they were very excited to be in charge of an important exercise of their own Party. The Central Committees are going to be in charge of the Administrative Districts. The polling officers are coming from that administrative district but they are none participating people.
“Everyone has been given the rules and regulations of the election process as agreed and instructed by the Politburo last week. We are on course and expect to open our polling stations tomorrow in time as instructed by the Commissariat Department and Party in general,” Cde Mahiya said.
Meanwhile ZANU PF National Spokesperson Cde Chris Mutsvangwa has announced through a Press Statement that Mashonaland West Candidate Cde Abia Mujeri the former Chairman for Mashonaland West had voluntarily withdrawn his candidature and would no longer be a candidate for the position of Chairman of the Province.
Cde Ozias Bvute of Mashonaland East is also said to have failed to qualify to stand as a candidate for the position of Chairman of the Province.
