Let's work together to achieve peace: SADC Chairman

The SADC Chairman His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa says there is need to work together and manage threats in the region. The President said peace is the cornerstone of sustainable development for the region.

The SADC chair congratulated the recently elected Botswana President H.E. Advocate Dr Duma Boko.

Cde Mnangagwa called on the region to remain steadfast in preserving peace in the region. He emphasised the concept enunciated in the SADC founding documents that an injury to one is an injury to the whole of SADC countries.

This comes as over 6.5million people have been internally displaced calling for an urgent need to end the civil unrest in the Eastern part of the DRC.

The President revealed that Zimbabwe is ready to work with other SADC member states for peace and security adding that there is need to be resolute. The SADC Chair commended the Angolan President H.E. Joao Lourenco for the tireless mediation efforts in DRC. He further applauded Malawi,Tanzania and South Africa for deploying troops and military equipment to restore peace and stability in the DRC.

Meanwhile the SADC Executive Secretary H.E. Elias Magosi pleaded with those aggrieved in any election process to follow the necessary peaceful procedures to maintain peace and security in the region.
