LET’S JOIN HANDS FOR THE WORKER’S PLIGHT: Cde JD HUNGWE

As the nation prepares to celebrate the International Workers Day also known as May day, ZANU PF leadership is calling on workers to join forces with the people’s Party for the betterment of their lives and the growth of the economy. This was said by the ZANU PF Secretary for Production and Labour Cde Josiah Hungwe ahead of May Day which is being celebrated globally amidst the COVID19 pandemic that has ravaged the globe and worn out the front-line workers. “As we commemorate May Day, we call upon workers to join hands with ZANU PF and our government led by HE President ED Mnangagwa towards attainment of vision 2030. ZANU PF is a Party of the workers, having itself been born out of the working class people who included the late Cde Joshua Nkomo, Cde Benjamin Burombo among many others” Cde Hungwe said. “It was the 1948 Railways strike which deepened our understanding of nationalism and desire to rule ourselves as a people after the realisation that social justice and respect of workers’ rights couldn’t be achieved under colonial rule. Workers therefore need to retrace their conscience, remain vigilant and desist from being weaponised by the country’s detractors through violent demonstrations meant to reverse the gains which have been realised thus far.” The Railway Workers strike began a period of labour unrest in Rhodesia which culminated in the general strike of 1948.
