The Independence flame left Harare this morning for Matabeleland South Province ahead of Friday’s launch of the 2026 celebrations.
Speaking before departure, Zimbabwe National Museums and Monuments Curator, Cde Rumbidzai Bvira said the unity of Zimbabwe’s gallant sons and daughters who fought to bring our freedom must be shown by Zimbabweans today.
”Today we are leaving Harare with the Independence Flame that is always burning at Kopje. We are going to Matabeleland South with the flame and it will be launched tomorrow to mark the start of the Independence celebrations for 2026,” she said.
”As the flame continues to burn in our country, it is a remembrance of the sacrifices and unity that was shown when the people went to wage the armed struggle. They were courageous and selfless. This is why we pass on the message that the spirit which was shown then can be shown in our people.”
