Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd has seized being a local entity with the entity spreading its wings beyond the region.
The company says the initiative was driven by the urgent need to address the chronic environmental hazards caused by the neglect of the former Pomona Dumpsite.
In an interview the company said, "Improper waste management significantly contributes to climate change, and we recognized the opportunity to introduce transformative solutions. Expanding beyond Zimbabwe aligns with our mission to lead sustainable waste management practices across the region and beyond," they said.
Talking about the progress at the site, the company disclosed that they "have made significant progress across various facilities. Key units, including the weighbridge, water treatment plant, concrete batch plant, hazardous waste encapsulation, engineered landfills, and recreational facilities, are now fully operational. We have covered some of the encapsulated areas with green lawn, enhancing the aesthetics of the place. The sorting plant, designed for effective waste segregation, is nearing completion, further advancing our capacity to manage waste sustainably."
They added that, "Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, Geo Pomona has benefited immensely from opportunities that highlight our work. Hosting SADC Heads of State and Government at our site has positioned us in the regional spotlight, paving the way for discussions and partnerships with neighbouring countries. We continue to leverage these opportunities by engaging with regional stakeholders to expand our impact and showcase our innovative solutions. So far, we have visited Madagascar and Botswana."
The company is encouraging the locals to invest in recycling businesses.
They add that "Geo Pomona is committed to empowering local communities by fostering entrepreneurial opportunities in the waste management sector. We actively encourage residents to invest in recycling businesses, equipping them with the knowledge and support needed to transform waste into valuable resources. This initiative promotes economic growth while contributing to environmental sustainability."
