The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South Province, Honourable A. Nguluvhe, has officially commissioned a new classroom block at Phakama Primary School in Gwanda District, marking a significant milestone in the strengthening of educational infrastructure and human capital development in the province.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, His Worship the Mayor, A.T. Moyo, described the new classroom block as more than just a physical structure, but a symbol of the nation’s commitment to securing the future of Zimbabwe’s children. He noted that the facility will provide a conducive learning environment, reduce overcrowding, and improve the overall quality of education for learners.
Honourable Nguluvhe commended the Municipality of Gwanda for its dedication and effective partnership with central government through devolution funding. He highlighted that the project demonstrates how collaborative efforts between government and local authorities can drive sustainable socio-economic transformation at community level.
The Minister emphasized that the project aligns with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) under the Human Capital Development thematic area, as well as Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an empowered upper-middle-income economy. He reiterated that education remains the cornerstone of national development and a key driver in building a skilled, innovative, and competitive workforce.
Calling on all stakeholders to take ownership of development initiatives, Honourable Nguluvhe urged learners to make full use of the new facilities, educators to continue nurturing future leaders, and parents and the wider community to safeguard and support the investment. He stressed that development requires active citizen participation and is not the sole responsibility of government.
In his closing remarks, the Minister described the commissioning as a new beginning for Phakama Primary School and a practical demonstration of the implementation of national development strategies on the ground. He expressed confidence that the new classroom block will inspire further educational initiatives and contribute meaningfully to improved learning outcomes in the community.
The event concluded with a call for unity and continued collaboration in advancing education and national development in line with Vision 2030.
