President Mnangagwa has said a clean environment enhances the country’s brand and image as a conducive global investment and tourist destination.
Giving his keynote address at the GEO POMONA WASTE MANAGEMENT (PVT) LTD COMMISSIONING OF THE SECOND BATCH OF REFUSE COLLECTION EQUIPMENT, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has said commendable work being undertaken at Geo-Pomona will go a long way to consolidate the gains Zimbabwe has achieved in recognition as ‘the World’s Best Country to Visit in 2025’.
“A clean environment enhances our country’s brand and image as a conducive global investment and tourist destination. The commendable work being undertaken here at Geo-Pomona will go a long way to consolidate the gains we have earned from Zimbabwe’s recognition as ‘the World’s Best Country to Visit in 2025’. Through ecological diplomacy, sustainable environmental practices and coordinated environmental preservation, our country now has a trusted green compliance template.
“Well done to all stakeholders in this arena. Riding on the experiences and lessons learnt under this Geo-Pomona Private Limited Project, it is important that more tailor-made models for waste management and disposal, be put in place to cushion our environment from our country’s future industrialisation and modernisation.
“This should enable us to eliminate and mitigate against the potential of environmental hazards which might be associated with the growth of our economy. In concluding, I exhort all responsible authorities to ensure that our cities, towns, municipal areas and growth points become a reflection of our national image, pride and identity, through sustainable waste management, beautification and clean environments, "said President Mnangagwa.
The Head of State and Government also challenged local authorities and communities in general to take ownership and drive the National Clean-Up Day which remains the First Friday of every month.
“As we go into the new year, I challenge Local Authorities and communities in general, to take ownership and drive the National Clean-Up Day, which remains the First Friday of every month.
“I will be giving Awards to the top performing Local Authorities with regards to observance of the National Clean-up Day, as well as clean, safe, healthy and beautiful environments.
“Let us all continue to demonstrate greater environmental stewardship, as we build, develop, modernise and industrialise our motherland, Zimbabwe Tisu vene venyika ino, tinosungirwa kuichengeta zvakanaka. Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhu-le-ke-lwe ngabanikazi balo,”said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa also takes the opportunity toto declare the new fleet of refuse waste compactors and equipment, for Geo-Pomona Waste Management Private Limited, officially commissioned.
