Citizens are the beneficiaries of a clean environment- First Lady
FIRST Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, has highlighted that 2020 and beyond was time for all Zimbabweans to fulfill pledges made during the signing of the national clean up declaration and bring them to reality.The Firs Lady said citizens were the primary beneficiaries of a clean environment.Addressing the Mazowe community during a clean-up campaign along the Harare-Mazowe (Bindura) highway, the First Lady said the attainment of a safe clean environment needs the collective effort of all citizens.“I want to call upon all of you to revisit the pledges made towards the campaign and judiciously fulfil them. The success of this campaign and the attainment of a clean, safe and healthy environment rests with all of us.“I therefore call upon all ministers, senators, members of parliament and all political players, as well as Chiefs, village heads, councillors, chief executive officers, religious leaders, heads of all educational and academic institutions, community leadership, captains of industry and commerce, vendors and everyone in leadership to take lead in this campaign. This serves as a reminder that this campaign calls for all of us to take part irrespective of colour, creed or political affiliation," she added.The First Lady who is also the Environment Patron urged the nation to come together and deal with waste management challenges that include littering and mushrooming of illegal waste dumps, which are common in urban centres.“Waste management challenges include littering and mushrooming illegal waste dumps, which are common in most of our urban centres, growth points and service centres, hence I call upon all local authorities to take full control of the campaign and ensure its sustainability as we forge ahead towards promoting a clean , safe and healthy environment for all citizens.“May this year usher in green solutions in waste management and enable new innovations that will take us to our vision of turning this country into a middle class economy by 2030, premised on a clean, safe and healthy environment, “she added.President Mnangagwa declared the first Friday of each calendar month, as the the National Environment Cleaning Day, as Government moves to ensure the country has sustainable environmental management and waste disposal systems.
