RESTRUCTURING of the ruling ZANU PF’s Harare Province from the cell upwards is going on well, with some party zones almost done with the exercise at cell level and awaiting further direction from the party leadership.District Coordinating Committees (DCC) were tasked with spearheading the process, which is expected to reinvigorate the party ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections. The ruling party is aiming to gain ground in the MDC-A dominated urban constituencies.In an exclusive interview to ascertain progress made so far in restructuring, Harare DCC Zone 6 chairman Cde Ephraim Fundukwa said restructuring was almost complete.He said the exercise gave a true picture of the party support base and had ushered new viable leadership, starting from the cell level because it is the foundation of the party.“We have been tasked by the party leadership to set up structures of the party. We are moving around our Zone conducting restructuring from cell level, our aim is to come out with true statistics of the party support base in the area, so we are attaining statistics from the cell which is the foundation of our party, at the same time educating party members to exercise high level of discipline,” he said.“We need to have proper structures starting from cell level. We want to set credible structures. The number of members on our books should tally with what is on the ground.“All senior party leadership such as the National Consultative Assembly, Central Committee and Politburo members should come from cell structures. This is the foundation of the party,” he said.“We want unity of purpose among members. We do not want busing of members from other areas, we want to work for the development of our party and enhance President Emmerson Mnangagwa's 2030 vision,” he added.Cde Fundukwa said the reintroduction of DCCs had reignited the party structures ahead of the 2023 elections.He said the party was spearheading various projects for the youths and women in Zone 6. Cde Fundukwa called for the regularisation of stands as most people were living in fear. Zone 6 has 56 party districts, with Harare South being the largest with 40 districts, Mbare 12, Sunningdale 2 and Southerton 2. Cde Fundukwa called for transparency during the restructuring exercise.
