The social media reports that Delish Nguwaya who was recently arrested on fraud charges was a holder of a diplomatic passport were false and intended to mischievously tarnish the image of the Government, a cabinet minister has said. This was said “Following social media reports of Sunday 21 June 2020 claiming that Mr Delish Nguwaya is a holder of a diplomatic passport, I wish to inform the nation that as the custodians of the diplomatic passports in Zimbabwe, my Ministry has no record of our issuing a diplomatic passport to Mr Delish Nguwaya. “I wish to confirm that from the Registrar-General’s Office records, Mr Nguwaya is a bona fide holder of an ordinary passport that was issued in Harare on 4 October 2011 and expires on 3 October 2021. “The social media reports are therefore not true and are meant to mischievously tarnish the image of the Government,” he said. Minister Moyo went on to call upon those who might have proof to bring it forward to the Ministry’s attention. “If indeed he has one it may have been fraudulently acquired and may those that have proof bring it to our attention,” he said. Nguwaya is facing charges of defrauding the Government in the procurement of personal protective equipment for Covid-19 The false information is meant to tarnish the New Dispensation’s image which it has been trying to mend in its engagement and re-engagement processes as it tries to fix Zimbabwe’s image.
