President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology says Zimbabwe has reached a level where innovative minds are of paramount importance to accelerate economic growth.Giving his acceptance speech on the occasion of receiving a Doctorate Degree conferred to him by the institute, President Mnangagwa said the nation now requires disruptive thinkers who are agents for positive transformation of the economy in line with vision 2030."Zimbabwe is at a time when it needs innovative minds to produce goods and services for sutainable economic growth, not just mere academic degrees and diplomas."We need disruptive thinkers who are agents for positive transformation and the modernisation of the economy in line with our vision to attain upper middle income status by 2030" said President Mnangagwa.President Mnangagwa also reiterated Government’s bold and strong stance in showing commitment and support for innovative talents that are viable for socio-economic projects."May I take this opportunity to reiterate my government's full commitment to support innovative talents ,viable socio-economic projects and provisions of mentorship to innovative ideas."The construction of science and research innovation hubs at our state universities bears huge testimony to our resolve to provide world class education, science, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, business development and spearheading industrialisation and economic transformation locally." said President Mnangagwa.Meanwhile President Mnangagwa, commissioned the first of the multi-phase innovation hub project at National University of Science and Technology and challenged the institution to develop prototypes that can be commercialised for local market as well as exports."The commissioning of the first of the multi-phase innovation hub project, which I was pleased to commission earlier today is pleasing and must provide a solid foundation for NUST to develop prototypes that can be commercialised for local market as well as exports.To inculcate such a tradition, I challenge the University to streamline it's core functions and academic programmes to one which has a strong bias in science and technology." said President Mnangagwa.
