Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development has assumed the Chairmanship of the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA) for the next 12 months, a government Minister has said.
Speaking during the Economic Commission for Africa conference in a press statement at Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls yesterday, Minister of Finance and Planning and Economic Development Prof Mthuli Ncube said, Zimbabwe had been given the Chairmanship of the ECA for the next 12 months.
“Zimbabwe has been given the Chairmanship of the ECA over the next 12 months to over see the planning and strategic thinking on what Africa should be doing in terms of advancing our economies forward.
As the incoming Chairman of the ECA for the next 12 months I will seek to drive Africa’s agenda and Africa’s voice in terms of economic development within Africa itself and the rest of the world,” said the Minister.
Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube also said the theme for the conference resonated on establishing greener economies in Africa.
“The theme of this conference is on the financing of greener economies in Africa, investing more in Agriculture, Climate proofing Agriculture, investing in renewable energies all of this is part of our theme.
Pfumvudza is an example of climate proofing agriculture which Zimbabwe has been using for the past two years, it has delivered results,” he said.
