ZANU PF MOVES IN TO RESTORE SANITY ON LAND DISPUTES, REGULARISE SETTLEMENTS
The ZANU PF 338 Ordinary Session of the Politburo Meeting today has resolved that all illegal rampant settlements be regularised in order to avoid disturbing those settled. A lot of demolishing of houses has been occurring with some land barons duping would-be land owners of their hard earned financial resources. The housing backlog is over a million and sky-rise buildings have been proposed as a solution to the demand for housing. In its electoral manifesto, the ruling Party promised to build thousands of houses for the people to ensure that they enjoy their right to shelter. However, this has been affected by squabbles over land disputes caused by a rampant and greedy group of land barons who have been causing havoc in various towns and peri-urban areas. Speaking at a Press briefing held after the session, Cde Obert Mpofu, the ZANU PF Secretary for Administration said regularisation is on the cards. “There is a lot of rampant illegal allocation of land especially on state land. The general feeling of the Politburo was that instead of disturbing the settlements, government should formalise the settlements and compensate the true owners of the land.”
