The ZANU PF Masvingo Province charmed the ruling Party Women’s League Deputy Secretary, Cde Angeline Masuku after they refused to have an interpreter to her Ndebele speech, chanting that they were conversant with the language. Cde Masuku was addressing the ruling party’s Masvingo Extra-Ordinary Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting held in the ancient city this afternoon. The beautiful drama that spoke to the unity and peace of the Zimbabwean people unfolded as soon as Cde Masuku took to the podium. Cde Masuku was overheard through the mic requesting for an interpreter as she was going to give her speech in Ndebele. She was left with a huge smile on her face after the whole room unanimously shouted “siyezwa thina iSiNdebele khuluma mama.” She went on to give her address predominantly in Ndebele throwing one or two Shona sentences and phrases. Cde Masuku’s speech was well received At one point Cde Masuku said, “mushamukadzi. Zanu PF cannot be Zanu PF without strong women. Tine power semadzimai yekutsigirwa nanababa pamwe chete nemayouths. Udubo yikuba siyazondana.” The meeting was attended The major highlight of the New Dispensation’s thrust towards uniting Zimbaweans was marked during this year’s Heroes Celebration when President Mnangagwa announced that the Second Republic was going to honour the revered General Mtshane Khumalo, the commander of King Lobhengula’s Imbizo Regiment, that defeated the Allan Wilson Patrol at the Battle of Pupu in 1893, as the first shots of colonial resistance were fired. General Khumalo is set to be honoured alongside Queen Lozikheyi and Mgandani Dlodlo in a similar way as that of the legendary Mbuya Nehanda whose statue is being erected in Harare at the intersection of Samora Machel and Julius Nyerere, where the legend is believed to have occasionally stopped to rest and drink water from a river that flowed on the site. In his Heroes message President Mnangagwa said “Other heroes and heroines from the early wars of resilience will also be honoured in a similar manner. Among them, General Mtshane Khumalo, who commanded the Imbizo Regiment, under King Lobengula, that defeated the Allan Wilson Patrol at the Battle of Pupu on 10 December, 1893. “Other distinguished heroes and heroines of the First Chimurenga/Umvukela such as Sekuru Kaguvi, Chaminuka, Queen Lozikheyi Khumalo, Chinengundu, Mashayamombe, Mgandani Dlodlo, Chiwashira, Chingaira Makoni and Mapondera among others, will be accorded appropriate recognition.” The late Vice President Joshua Nkomo and Gen Alfred Nkitha Mangena are some of the several luminaries of the Second Umvukela who are also set to be honoured in a similar fashion. “From the Second Chimurenga/Umvukela, the late General Josiah Magama Tongogara, Gen Alfred Nikitha Mangena, Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe, Cde Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo and Cde Simon Vengai Muzenda among others, will also be honoured,” President Mnangagwa also said. Additionally, the list of the country’s monuments would be reviewed to include the Pupu Liberation War Shrine amongst others.
