ZANU PF is seeking to extend its electoral dominance by wrestling the Chegutu Ward 2 council seat from the western sponsored MDC Alliance (MDC-A) at a by election set for 21 March 2020.The Chegutu ward 2 seat fell vacant when the MDC- A councillor passed on and ZANU PF will be represented by Cde Prosper Mutongerwa in the by election.Launching the by election campaign for Ward 2, ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Cde Victor Matemadanda, said the electorate has another opportunity to vote for the governing Party’s candidate as he was best placed to bring about development.“Through this by election we must ensure that we elect the ZANU PF candidate to ensure that the challenges you face are addressed expeditiously as the councillor will have access to Government departments and officials. The opposition candidate cannot bring any development as they refuse to work with the Government. We lost by a small margin in 2018 so this time we want to reverse that”.Cde Matemadanda said ZANU PF was determined to regain lost ground in urban centres from the opposition hence the focus by the Party to address concerns of urbanites through interventions by central Government in resuscitating service provision in urban council authorities. The intervention by Government has resulted in ZANU PF wrestling two urban council wards from the MDC-A in by elections held in Manicaland and Masvingo. Cde Matemadanda assured residents of Chegutu that Government had put in place sufficient measures to ensure that no citizen will starve due to the drought. Also in attendance at the rally were several Politburo members who included Cdes Mike Bimha, Omega Hungwe, Tendai Chirau and members of the Mashonaland West Provincial leadership led by Chairperson Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi.
