THE ZANU PF Women’s League has set up 3000 Dutch ovens across the country as it intensifies empowerment programmes that benefit its members in the wake of rising costs of confectionary products.Under the Command Bakeries, members of the ZANU PF Women’s League are taught to produce various confectionery products such as bread and scones for their communities.Addressing the ZANU PF Weekly Administration and Policy Co-ordination Meeting, Deputy Secretary for Women Affairs, Cde Angeline Masuku, said the programme has proven to be popular with the structures of the party.“The command bakeries (program) has grown rapidly and we now have 3000 Dutch ovens throughout the country and we have even managed to draw the youths and war vets. Further the programme has become a major mobilisation tool for the party as people are interested in gaining skills that help improve their livelihoods”.Under the 2018 People’s Manifesto, ZANU PF committed to increasing the role and status of women as well as uplift their dignity through programmes that speak to their needs and aspirations.Cde Masuku said further to the Command Bakeries programme the league had also resuscitated the Party’s canteen and it will soon be operational.“I would also want to thank the Party’s administration and Finance Department for the support they have given us, we have received the necessary equipment for the canteen and we hope to open it to the public next week”.Women Affairs minister, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni commended the efforts of the Women’s League and added that His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa would soon launch the command bakery projects at the Incubation centre in Waterfalls.“The programmes of the League have greatly helped the party mobilise and the President will soon launch the bakeries programme at the incubation Centre in Waterfalls and we are just waiting for His Excellency to give us the date,” said Cde Nyoni.
