There is something about the First Family that I have noticed. I don't know if most of you have too. It is like the Family has servant leadership running deep within their veins. I can not say that I know them very well, but there are things that in my small space have seen and must appreciate.
The Head of State for Zimbabwe, His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has since the beginning his term of office talked about working for the people of Zimbabwe and has been tremendously doing so.
In instances where it has been about a Groundbreaking Ceremony, the man has literally taken whatever tool of trade and dug.
If it has been about transportation, he has gotten onto that bus to start the engine.
If it has been about tree planting, he has planted and watered the trees.
Talk about agriculture, his farm in Kwekwe has literally become a tourism site as many go to see a technological infusion of that particular sector.
Symbolic, you may say, but what does that mean? With his status, he can simply cut a ribbon and be done with any particular ceremony.
Take a look also at The First Lady, Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa.
She has also in her own right embarked on numerous programmes to showcase the First Family's selflessness.
The Angel of Hope Foundation which she runs, provides great relief to many people.
She has taken time to, for lack of a better word, ukusinda ngobulongwe (smearing cowdung) in traditional homes for some elderly people.
She has fed children with her own hands, even taking time to cook for them.
She has numerous roles that she is executing very well, too. Like the President, she can simply choose to cut a ribbon.
The recent one that got my attention was her performance in Belarus when she joined the art showcase.
On her Twitter page, she wrote:
"As the Tourism Patron, I am proud that Zimbabwe showcased its rich cultural heritage at the Belarus 33rd International Festival of Arts and Culture Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk. The festival, which attracted people from 38 countries, unites people of different religions and cultures. Zimbabwe made history by becoming the only African country which took to the international stage and participated through music and dance. Zimbabwe was represented by a traditional arts ensemble of talented cultural musicians, including schools that were assembled from our Provinces. Well done to the group for putting our country on the map. Thank you, Belarus, for your hospitality."
She too has shown that no job is too small when there is a bigger goal. What is the bigger goal here?
It is building Zimbabwe. It is improving the lives of the people of Zimbabwe. It is uplifting the status of our motherland. It is opening up Zimbabwe for the world to see the numerous opportunities it has and what if not these acts of servant leadership.
To the First Family, I can not but express the gratitude of many Zimbabweans who are yearning to build this country, taking a leaf from you. Believe you me, the foot soldiers are many. Keep up the good work.
