ZANU PF First Secretary and President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, has urged the Party leadership to focus more on participating in Government programmes in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.Addressing the 336th ordinary session of the Politburo, President Mnangagwa said in 2020 the Party must focus on productivity and find innovative ways to bolster production.“I urge the Party leadership and structures as a whole to focus more on participating in Government and shift from the fixation of merely “supervising” Government programmes. The Party cannot be simple spectators in Government programmes. You must be active participants”.He said in line with servant leadership espoused by the 2nd Republic, the Party leadership at all levels must spend time with the people in their communities to accelerate provincial economies and rural industry systems.“2020 is the year of Productivity and meeting the needs of the people. I therefore urge Heads of departments and Party leaders at all levels, to spend more time with communities in the countryside, helping in the implementation and monitoring of Government programmes towards improving the quality of life for our people”.He said in 2020 Government will build on the successes registered in 2019 under the Transitional Stabilisation Programme.“As we look ahead, let us acknowledge and celebrate the progress registered to date, particularly in 2019 when we managed to achieve most of the targets set under the Transitional Stabilisation Programme.These targets saw us achieve economic stability and notable success across the various sectors of our economy”.The President also urged the Party leadership to be supportive of Government efforts to arrest inflation, consolidation of the mono-currency regime and tackling the scourge of violence by the unruly machete wielding criminal gangs.He said the Party must also rally behind the anti-corruption crusade and be on guard against misguided activism.“The fight to end corruption must gain momentum. In doing so however, the Party’s wings and members across the board, must exercise discipline. We must all guard against misguided and misdirected activism which threaten the Party’s unity, cohesion and singleness of purpose. Such behaviour will never be condoned”.The President said in light of the drought, Government’s priority was to guarantee Food security and ensure that no citizen starved.He underscored that Food distribution must be done in an impartial manner regardless of political affiliation.The President reiterated that the 40th main Independence celebrations will not be hosted in Harare as part of efforts to decentralise national events from the capital.
