President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the defence forces to be cognisant of the ever changing environment which requires new skills and knowledge to enhance comprehensive national security.Giving his keynote address at the graduation ceremony of the Joint Command and Staff Course Number 32 President Mnangagwa said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces should embrace technology and keep in touch with the evolving global peace in areas of economic, political and security matters.“I call upon the all other institutions of higher learning both local and foreign, the private sector included and the Civil Society to partner with the Zimbabwe Staff College in areas of innovation, technology, policy research and analysis upon which pragmatic and rational strategy related security decisions can be based.“This is critical in keeping with evolving global peace, economic, political and security matters as well as the emerging new security threats.“I am confident that with such cooperation the college can offer news ideas, skills and innovations that will set the country on anew defence and security trajectory,” said President Mnangagwa.President Mnangagwa also commended the composition of the Joint Command and Staff Course in its inclusive nature of engaging some other sister security forces and also taking into account gender balance.He further saluted the curriculum of the course in line with the contemporary threats and opportunities in national defence and security architecture.President Mnangagwa saluted the college in maintaining highest standards of professionalism by partnering with other higher learning institutions.“It is also pleasing to note that in the college’s quest to improve and maintain high professional and academic standards, it has partnered with the University of Zimbabwe of Zimbabwe and Chinhoyi University of Technology.“Among the graduating students today, the majority have Diplomas in Defence and Security Studies from the University of Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa.President Mnangagwa confered certificates to sixty nine officers forty three drawn from the Zimbabwe National Army(ZNA) ,ten from Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) and four from Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) President’s Department and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services,(ZPCS).The Joint Command and Staff Course included graduates from countries like Zambia, Botswana, Pakistan, SouthAfrica, Namibia,Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria.The ceremony was also attended by Acting Minister of Defence Ambassador Cain Mathema,Minister of State Security Cde Owen Ncube,Minister of Harare Metroplolitan Province Eng Chidawo and Service Chiefs among others.
