President Mnangagwa confirms his support for women’s empowerment

Takeaways from His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa's speech to the ZANU PF Women's League National Assembly meeting

22 July 2026

* The ZANU PF Government is anchored on women's economic empowerment. It is a Party and Government policy that empowerment must be inclusive and reach every woman. It must transcend geography, age, and status.

* The Second Republic is prioritising women's empowerment by providing funds to uplift women's livelihoods through the Ministry of Women's Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Zimbabwe’s Women's Microfinance Bank and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Company (SMEDCO).

* From the city to the village, from the boardroom to the farm, and from the young to the elderly, every woman is being included in our development agenda. Hakuna mudzimai kana nzwimbo ichasiyiwa kumashure, sithi akekho umama, lendawo ezasala emuva

* Let us build the ZANU PF we want, one household, one project, and one community at a time.

* Shingai Madzimai, hurumende yedu ye ZANU PF yavhura mikana yakawanda. Pamberi nekushanda nesimba. Pamberi nebudiriro.

* On political participation, we reaffirm our commitment to increasing women's representation in Parliament, Local Authorities, and Party Structures. I call on the League to identify, mentor, and deploy more women to serve in leadership positions in all sectors of the economy. The future of our national politics and development must continue to be inclusive.

* I commend the Women's League for successfully fielding women candidates to participate in council by-elections and for winning the same elections. This achievement demonstrates your organisational strength, mobilisation capacity, and commitment to advancing women's representation.

* With regards to agricultural empowerment, our ZANU PF-led Government is moving beyond inputs support and now includes extensive mechanisation, through our ongoing equipment support schemes. The League is called upon to mobilise women to access all facilities being availed by my Administration.

* My Government is scaling up the roll out of quality, affordable and appropriate healthcare services. The rehabilitation of hospitals, procurement of equipment, and recruitment of additional health personnel is designed to bolster current services, while moving forward our facilities and systems in line with best practice. I am aware that much work must be done and hence, appeal to women and the citizenry as a whole, to be patient, as we build-up this critical pillar of our nation’s well-being.

* We continue to invest in maternity wards, ambulances, and trained midwives. No woman should die while giving life.
