His Excellency the President and ZANU PF First Secretary Cde, ED Mnangagwa today commissioned Doctors accommodation in Marimba Flats and officially launched the Zimbabwe National Human Settlements Policy at the Marimba Flats site.
Government is fulfilling one of its promises it made to the people in the ZANU PF 2018 People’s Manifesto as one of its priority areas of focus that is to provide access to affordable modern housing as they seek to bring sanity to unplanned urban land development.
“The Marimba Flats Project I am commissioning today comprises of two medium density blocks. I commend the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities for successfully completing this project at a time the country and the world over, are grappling with the negative effects of the Covid19 pandemic.
"These housing units are being allocated to medical doctors who form part of our frontline workers in the fight against the pandemic and are key cog in our quest to achieve universal health coverage. The provision of such institutional accommodation is part of my Governments commitment to avail non-monetary incentives for the sterling efforts that medical personnel continue to make towards ensuring the well-being of all citizens countrywide,” President Mnangagwa said.
He also said that the accommodation of doctors, nurses and health workers in all major hospitals across the country are also at an advanced stage.
His Excellency went on to highlight that the war of liberation was not in vain because the New Dispensation is correcting the wrongs of the colonial regime and improve the quality of life of people.
“As you are aware, we fought the protracted war of liberation in order to regain our nationhood, correct the wrongs of the colonial regime and improve the quality of life of our people, including enhancing access to decent and affordable housing. Highlighting this commitment, my administration set up a dedicated Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities to spearhead the development of modern and affordable urban and rural human settlements and social amenities in a coordinated manner.
“My Government is accelerating the provision of houses and social amenities to all sections of society, including the health sector. Numerous new housing projects and others which had stalled are being completed across the country. Success of the programme is being further accelerated through collaboration and coordinated efforts from various stakeholders. These housing development projects are therefore being implemented through funding from treasury as well as local and international private sector participation,” His Excellency said.
