Chancellor of Midlands State University President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday capped close to 4 000 graduands at MSU as the institution continues to expand.Midlands State University through the faculty of Arts is currently hosting a number of PhD students and researcher affiliates from Michigan State University of Essex in the UK and this augurs well with the re-engagement policy currently underway as the nation braces for the attainment of vision 2030.The institution's graduands yesterday had a total of 100 students drawn from Malawi, Mozambique,Namibia, South Sudan and eSwatini.Giving his keynote address, Midlands State University Vice Chancellor, Prof Muzvidziwa said the institution's academics have gone beyond the borders and made strides in uplifting the flag of the nation."Your Excellency and Chancellor, our academics have been attracting global attention in the areas of research and innovation."Our international contacts keep expanding," said Professor Muzvidziwa.Professor Muzvidziwa also said the institution is committed to contribute towards the country's GDP." Your Excellency and Chancellor, Higher and Tertiary institutions have been called upon to contribute US$12 billion to the country's GDP by 2025. MSU has committed itself to this cause."Our strategic priorities at MSU include excelling in research, innovation and technology transfer, investing in and upgrading physical infrastructure, exporting higher education through internationalisation and mobilisation of financial and technical reasources from international and local collaborations for research and capacity building."We have the intellectual and technical resources and infrastructure to contribute meaningfully to building a US$2billion higher education industry by 2025," said Prof Muzvidziwa.The 2019 graduation ceremony witnessed 771 postgraduate students from the 3149 graduands .The gender composition of the graduands was almost at par with 1 568 being female and 1581 male.Among the graduands were pioneering classes in Mining Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering.
