President and First Secretary of the ZANU PF Party Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says the country should begin moving towards production, processing and marketing of products on the farm, a model which has been possible on his farm.Precabe farm in Sherwood, Kwekwe is a 405-hectare farm, but has extended its farming business to neighbouring farms where renting is being done.A Grand Field Day hosted by SeedCo and other companies was held at the farm after assessments that were done found that there was massive land utilisation which would be an inspiration to many farmers.Speaking at the farm, Cde Mnangagwa challenged farmers to go beyond the normal in order to ensure a food secure Zimbabwe.“We are honoured as a family by your coming for this field day. We have been here since 2003 and we have learnt a lot and seen that each year we are getting better. What you see here is technology that my brother Patrick went to learn. He is able to water the crops away from the farm. I underestimated the technology but I have seen that it is working well,” Cde Mnangagwa said.“We have said production, production, production and trade. So we choose maize and wheat. We are growing the crops, processing and marketing them from here. You can do production and value addition on the farm.“If we are all determined, we can be able to achieve a lot on whatever size of piece of land so that we have no starvation. This is where we should be heading and not cry foul about climate change. We must be able to adapt to it.”Guest of honour ZANU PF National Chairperson said the First family has exhibited true leadership qualities.“We are here to celebrate agricultural excellence. Many people have multiple farms which are not doing well but the President and First Secretary Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has only one farm. This is a New Dispensation and it has allowed us to gather to learn,” Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said.“He has been talking about production, production and production and that we should eat the fruit of our labour. He is leading by example and this shows Zimbabwe’s commitment to make the country food secure. This is a chance to appreciate good agricultural innovation and technology as a major driver to achieving food security.”
