President Mnangagwa has urged all citizens to uphold the unity originated by veteran founding fathers, more so honouring them as the founders of the nation of Zimbabwe.Addressing the media in commemorating the 1987 Unity Accord, President Mnangagwa said, all citizens and leaders must continue to renew and reaffirm the unity as a people and never tire to work for it nationally.The head of State and Government also said that every citizen must always seek to be more peaceful and more united through greater interaction, justice and more balanced development.“We stand obligated to further the ideals of this timeless bequest of Unity to our nation. Far more than a legacy, the Unity Accord is material force which continues to shape our politics to this day and forever. It never wears out, nor will we ever allow it to perish.“It is the life-force of our Nation, the pitch of our nationhood. We are as good and as strong we are united; today, tomorrow and forever."All generations, all citizens all leaders of this nation, must continue to renew, affirm and reaffirm our unity as a people. We should never tire to work for national unity, to think, act and to live true to its dictates.“Zimbabwe is and must remain a home of all who belong to, reside and believe in it.”Said President Mnangagwa.President Mnangagwa also said the Unity Accord is a landmark achievement with national ethic and value which rises above party politics.The unity accord was signed between two liberation movements on 22December,1987 by two founding fathers, veteran nationalists and freedom fighters Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe representing ZANU AND Cde Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, representing PF-ZAPU.President Mnangagwa also recounted the processes to the formation and agreement of the Unity Accord in 1987.“It is now 22years since the signing of the Unity Accord which united ZANU AND PF ZAPU, the two sole parties of our national liberation, and most importantly it united Zimbabweans.“We commemorate this historic Accord.“The landmark event ended the disturbances which had flared up soon after our independence, and threatened to split and rip our nation apart. It laid a strong lasting foundation of our national unity, itself the bedrock of the stability and amity we continue to enjoy as a united people.” Said President Mnangagwa.
