Speaking at the memorial service of the Late National Hero Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday in GreyStone Park, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa challenged the media and communication sector to always advance the national interest.
"The late Cde S.K. Moyo Cde S.K. Moyo also believed in unity and coexistence as one people, from Zambezi to Limpopo. In this regard, I challenge the media and communication sector, across the various platforms, to always advance the national interest. Guided by our development mantra, Nyika inovakwa inotongwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo, let us all rise beyond misplaced perceptions of disunity and work with greater unity of purpose towards the realisation of Vision 2030", President Mnangagwa said.
He was accompanied by the Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Hon C.D.G.N. Chiwenga, Minister of Local Governance Hon July Moyo and ZANU PF Politburo members.
President Mnangagwa described the Late National Hero Ambassador Khaya Moyo as a consistent and persistent cadre who was committed to serve the people of Zimbabwe.
" The late Cde Simon Khaya Moyo was a consistent and persistent revolutionary cadre. His lifelong service to the revolution was informed by his unwavering desire and commitment to serving the people of Zimbabwe. He had an indisputable track record of religiously following the ethos and ideals of our revolutionary Party, ZANU PF", President Mnangagwa said.
He also added that " Cde "S. K." was a reliable and trustworthy cadre who was deployed to strategic tasks, during critical points in the history of our Party and Government. These included demystifying the false narratives portrayed against our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, at the height of Western hostilities as a result of the imposition of illegal sanctions".
His Excellency President Mnangagwa also challenged public servants to emulate traits of the Late Cde SK. Moyo.
""I, thus challenge public servants across every level to emulate the traits of the Late Cde S.K. Moyo. Corruption and other unethical behaviours are counter-productive and alien to the Second Republic's performance and results oriented culture", he said.
President Mnangagwa urged the youth cadres to serve loyally and consistently as the Late National Hero Cde Simon Khaya Moyo did.
" Despite his rich liberation credentials, the late Cde 'S. K'. was not boastful or conceited. He never clamoured for positions within both the Party and Government. Youthful cadres within the Party must learn from this rich legacy and avail themselves to serve loyally and consistently. Be prepared to go through the mill, continuously learning so that you are thoroughly prepared to serve in positions of responsibility", His Excellency said.
He also further challenged Zimbabweans to avail themselves to serve the country as demonstrated by the Late National Hero Cde S.K.
" I challenge fellow Zimbabweans, including our young talented boys and girls to stand ready to avail themselves to be deployed to serve the country. The courage and consistency demonstrated by Cde Simon Khaya Moyo as he responded to the call to serve our motherland must be a source of inspiration to every citizen", he said.
With regards to elections President Mnangagwa urged unity and peace as the nation prepares for the 2023 Harmonised Elections.
" Furthermore, constructive criticism as well as divergent views in the political, economic and social spheres must arrive us towards a culture of tolerance, non-violence and peace. This is more critical as the nation prepares for the 2023 Harmonised General Elections", President Mnangagwa said.
His Excellency President Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude to the Moyo Family.
" As the revolutionary Party ZANU PF we remain grateful to the Moyo Family for giving us your son whose sacrifices and legacy we shall forever cherish", President Mnangagwa.
