A declassified letter from the British Ministry of Defence has laid bare how the opposition MDC begged the British Government to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe in a bid to unseat the revolutionary ZANU PF government.
ZANU PF has always maintained that MDC is a front of Western Governments who are determined to reverse the Land Reform Programme.
However, the MDC has fervently denied it was a poodle of the West but the letter has put paid to those denials.
The letter penned Further to that, the letter details how the British Government was desperate to influence the outcome of the 2002 Presidential elections.
"High Commissioner Brain Donnelly has met with Messrs Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Laxton Biti and David Coltart. The latter two are lawyers who are assisting in the drafting of the sanctions document and are giving great insights into what our role should be in the upcoming 2002 Presidential elections.”
The letter below, further reveals how the British government wanted to rope in members of the civil society to unseat the revolutionary ZANU PF Government in the event it won the 2002 Presidential elections.
